Any discussions held in Germany about sustainability and environmental awareness always involve very high standards. People should not forget, however, that environmental conditions in many places around the world are so difficult that environmentally friendly measures are not there to improve waste collection statistics but play an important role in improving quality of life. The Russian city of Dzerzhinsk is just such a place and is considered to be among the ten most polluted places in the world. A good enough reason, therefore, for us to commit ourselves to the region long term to gradually help improve the lives of those living there.
For example, by introducing recycling systems into the city for the very first time. This might not sound very much but it is an important step along the path towards greater sustainability. The practice of incinerating waste – and the toxic emissions that sometimes result from this – can only be halted if the local inhabitants are able to separate their waste according to type. Following our success in Dzerzhinsk, we have also implemented separate collection systems in other towns in Russia. Such as Saransk where we carry out many different school projects, spread out throughout the year, to make children more aware of the importance of the subject of recycling.
Besides Russia, we also carry out school projects in Poland to raise environmental awareness
'Know-how brings forth responsibility' – each and every day, we work to live up to this motto, actively helping to improve quality of life and establish environmental standards around the globe. Perhaps the first thing that springs to mind here is our dedication and commitment within the area of water management. Whether it be to improve wastewater treatment and provide a reliable supply of drinking water – as in the Russian city of Arzamas – or to become involved in national environmental projects such as the Clean India Mission. Other examples of our international commitment include a research project involving water resource management in South Africa, a plastics recycling project in Taiwan as well as our WEEE recycling operations in France.
As we play such an active role in the Polish waste management industry, our REMONDIS vehicles are a common sight in many regions around the country. We also play an active role when it comes to helping local communities – something we do in a number of different ways. We not only ensure, for example, that waste is treated in line with the highest of standards but also meet our social responsibilities by showing our support for social and cultural projects. To ensure that the money we provide is used in the best possible way, we often work together with local charities. The following lists a number of the projects and organisations that we support:
REMONDIS Szczecin also supports their local music school
